Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic confirmed the Blues’ interest in signing a player during the Mercato last summer.

Kovacic said, in a statement highlighted by Fabrizio Romano, an expert on transfers of players and coaches in Europe, on his account on the social networking site “Twitter”: “They asked me at Chelsea about Josko Gvardiol, the Leipzig star, and I gave the best opinion about him.”

“Jusco is a player at the highest level, and the people here at Chelsea know that,” he added.

Fabrizio revealed that Chelsea made an offer to include Gvardiol, but Leipzig rejected it, and now the Blues’ alternative plan is to sign him in June 2023.

It is reported that Josko Gvardiol’s contract with Leipzig expires in the summer of 2027, and the Croatian player is good at central defense and left-back.
