Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has turned down a new contract offer from the club. This is due to the fact that under the new agreement, the Senegalese goalkeeper is offered to earn less than his backup Kepa Arrizabalaga.
It is reported by the Evening Standard. Arrizabalaga, 27, is currently earning €221,000, according to the source, while Mendy was offered a contract on worse terms.
Mendy, 30, joined Chelsea in September 2020. In 99 matches for the team, the Senegalese conceded 78 goals and played 49 clean sheets.
The agreement between the parties expires in 2025. Chelsea, after six matches of the English Premier League (EPL), scored 10 points and is on the sixth line of the standings.
