Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois won the Yashin Award for the best goalkeeper in the world for the last season (2021-2022), during a ceremony held on Monday evening in the French capital, Paris.
Courtois appeared superbly last season, and was one of the most important reasons for Real Madrid’s crowning of the Spanish League and Champions League titles.
The Ivorian striker Sebastian Haller, who has testicular cancer, handed the award to the Belgian goalkeeper.
Courtois won the award ahead of many goalkeepers such as Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich), Alisson Becker (Liverpool), and Yassine Bono (Sevilla).
The ceremony included the distribution of 7 awards, which are the Golden Ball for the best player and player in the world, the Cuban award for the best young player, Yashin for the best goalkeeper, Gerd Muller for the best scorer, and the best club award, other than the Socrates award.
