Bayern thrashes Shakhtar 5-1 in a commanding performance

Date:

Bayern Munich extended their winning run in Europe by securing a dominant 5-1 victory over Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night. The match, part of the Champions League’s sixth round, took place at the Veltins Arena.

Bayern Munich’s five goals came from Konrad Laimer (11′), Thomas Müller (45′), Michael Oliseh (70′ and 93′), and Jamal Musiala (87′). Shakhtar Donetsk’s sole goal was netted by Kevin de Macedo in the 5th minute.

As a result, Bayern Munich moved up to 12 points, climbing to eighth place, while Shakhtar remained stuck at 4 points, occupying 26th place

Shakhtar took an early lead in the 5th minute when Kevin de Macedo latched onto a through ball from Zubkov, evaded Kim inside the box, and fired a stunning curling shot into the net.

Bayern responded swiftly, equalizing in the 11th minute. Müller sent a ball into the area, and though Gramm attempted to clear it, it fell to Laimer, who powered a shot past the keeper into the net.

Shakhtar nearly regained the lead just a minute later, in the 12th, when Bondarenko fired a shot from the edge of the area, but it sailed wide of the post.

In the 17th minute, Sane tested Shakhtar’s goalkeeper Reznik with a shot from outside the box, which was comfortably saved.

After a quiet period, Bayern had another chance in the 31st minute. Oliseh took a shot from outside the area, but it went wide of the target.

Oliseh attempted again in the 35th minute, this time from inside the box, but his shot flew over the bar.

Shakhtar squandered a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 43rd minute. Kevin launched a quick counterattack, racing from midfield into the penalty area before passing to Sudakov, who had a clear shot on goal but somehow missed, sending the ball narrowly past the post.

Bayern quickly punished the miss, taking the lead in the 45th minute. Musiala delivered a brilliant pass into the box to Müller, who was unmarked and calmly slotted the ball into the net, giving Bayern a 2-1 lead at halftime.

The second half began with a close call for Bayern in the 46th minute, as Sane’s shot from inside the area went just wide of the post.

Bayern continued to test Shakhtar’s defence with long-range efforts. In the 58th minute, Goretzka took a shot from outside the box, but it was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Reznik.

In the 68th minute, Bayern were awarded a penalty when Graam fouled substitute Boye. Oliseh converted the spot-kick with a precise shot to the right of the goalkeeper, increasing Bayern’s lead.

Hungry for more, Bayern pressed for a fourth goal, and in the 72nd minute, Boye had a chance inside the area, but Shakhtar’s keeper made a fine save.

Musiala sealed Bayern’s victory with a fourth goal in the 87th minute. After receiving the ball inside the box, he outsmarted the Shakhtar goalkeeper and calmly finished into the net.

In the third minute of stoppage time, Bayern scored one of the tournament’s best goals. Oliseh played a beautiful combination with five teammates before the goalkeeper fell, and he coolly slotted the ball into the net to complete a 5-1 win.
