Bournemouth humiliate Manchester United at Old Trafford

Date:

Manchester United endured a crushing defeat in the English Premier League on Sunday evening, falling 3-0 to visiting Bournemouth in the 17th round of the competition.

Bournemouth’s goals came from Dean Huijsen in the 29th minute, Justin Kluivert from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, and Antoine Semenyo in the 64th minute.

With this victory, Bournemouth climbed to fifth place in the standings with 28 points, while Manchester United remained in 13th place with 22 points.

The first significant chance of the match came in the sixth minute when Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee narrowly missed connecting with Kobbie Mainoo’s pass. Amad Diallo capitalized on the opportunity, firing a shot toward the near post, but Bournemouth goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was alert and made the save.

Bournemouth responded in the ninth minute when Antoine Semenyo attempted a long-range shot, but Andre Onana comfortably handled it.

In the 18th minute, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes tested Kepa Arrizabalaga with a shot that was saved. Moments later, Justin Kluivert launched a counter-attack but opted to shoot instead of passing to teammate Evanilson, sending his effort wide in the 24th minute.

Bournemouth broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when Ryan Christie delivered a well-placed free-kick, and Dean Huijsen rose to head the ball beyond Onana’s reach.

Onana showcased his reflexes in the 31st minute, blocking Evanilson’s attempt, while Fernandes responded shortly after with a direct free-kick that hit the defensive wall.

In the 41st minute, Amad Diallo set up Fernandes, whose low shot went narrowly wide of Bournemouth’s far post. A minute later, Huijsen lost possession in his own half, allowing Diallo to intercept and feed Fernandes, but Kepa denied the Portuguese midfielder’s effort.

Fernandes came close again in the 44th minute when Kobbie Mainoo sent him a pass, but his shot veered wide of the right post.

Bournemouth began the second half on the front foot, with Evanilson setting up Semenyo, who fired a shot over the bar in the 47th minute.

Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho were brought on to replace Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte, but Bournemouth extended their lead in the 61st minute. Justin Kluivert won a penalty and calmly converted it to make it 2-0.

Just two minutes later, in the 63rd minute, Bournemouth struck again. Substitute Dango Ouattara advanced and set up Antoine Semenyo, who finished from close range to secure their third goal.

Hojlund then connected with Garnacho, who charged toward the penalty area and unleashed a shot, but Kepa Arrizabalaga made a spectacular save in the 65th minute.

The Spanish goalkeeper continued to shine, denying Hojlund in the 69th minute after a well-placed pass from Diogo Dalot.

Bournemouth nearly added a fourth goal in the 81st minute, but Lewis Cook’s ambitious effort missed the target.

In stoppage time, United came close to grabbing a consolation goal, but Kepa stopped substitute Lenny Yoro’s attempt, capping off a flawless performance for Bournemouth’s keeper.
