Inter Milan Triumphs Over Venezia with 1-0 Win in Serie A

Inter Milan secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Venezia in the 20th round of Serie A, with Matteo Darmian scoring the only goal of the match. The win keeps Inter in second place, just one point behind leaders Napoli.

Darmian’s Goal Lifts Inter Milan to Victory

The match saw an early breakthrough in the 16th minute when Matteo Darmian netted the only goal of the game. Darmian capitalized on a rebound after Lautaro Martinez’s shot was saved by Venezia’s goalkeeper, Stankovic. The goal came after a well-timed long ball from Kristjan Asllani that set up Lautaro’s initial attempt.

Missed Opportunities for Inter Milan

Despite taking the lead, Inter Milan had several missed chances to extend their advantage. In the first half, striker Mehdi Taremi failed to convert two promising opportunities. The first, a pass from Lautaro in front of goal, saw Taremi shoot wide. Later, Taremi’s attempt after a cross from Denzel Dumfries went over the crossbar.

Stankovic made several key saves for Venezia, including a crucial stop on Lautaro’s shot in the 36th minute that would have given Inter a second goal.

Venezia’s Fightback and Inter’s Defense

Venezia came out strong in the second half, pushing for an equalizer. They nearly levelled the score in the 50th minute when a header from Doumbia was expertly saved by Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

Taremi continued to miss chances, with another opportunity in the 54th minute sailing wide after a cross from Dumfries. Despite these misses, Inter Milan managed to maintain their lead.

Fratzi and Thuram’s Impact After Substitutes

Coach Simone Inzaghi made some tactical changes, bringing on Fratzi and Marcus Thuram, who had returned from injury. Fratzi almost doubled Inter’s lead immediately, but his shot was turned away for a corner by Stankovic.

Venezia’s Close Call and Sommer’s Clean Sheet

Venezia had their most dangerous moment of the match in the 74th minute when Bossio fired a powerful shot that hit the post. In the dying moments of the match, Venezia’s Bohanbalu surprised Sommer with a shot in injury time, but the Inter goalkeeper kept a clean sheet and sealed the win for his side.

Standings After the Match

With the win, Inter Milan now has 43 points, keeping them one point behind Serie A leaders Napoli. Venezia, on the other hand, remains in second-to-last place with just 14 points.
