Alexander Zverev Line-Detection Devices Removal “Ridiculous”

Alexander Zverev voiced his frustration after his victory over Tommy Paul in the Australian Open quarter-finals, calling the removal of line-detection devices “absolutely ridiculous.” The German tennis star expressed disbelief that, while cameras monitor every corner of the court, decisions on line calls during serves are still left to the umpire’s discretion.

Zverev was visibly frustrated during the match when he felt a ball had touched the line on one of his serves but the umpire did not make the call. He later revealed he wasn’t aware that the line-detection devices had been removed, which contributed to his frustration.

Zverev’s Victory and Semi-Final Matchup

Zverev triumphed in four sets: 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-0), 2-6, 6-1, after 3 hours and 27 minutes of play. He will now face the winner of the Novak Djokovic vs. Carlos Alcaraz quarter-final in the semi-finals.

It’s noteworthy that Novak Djokovic secured a spot in the semi-final to face Alexander Zverev.
