A dramatic win for Barcelona over Dortmund

Date:

Barcelona secured a thrilling 3-2 win against Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday evening in the sixth round of the Champions League.

Barcelona triumphed with a hat-trick from Rafinha (53′) and Ferran Torres (75′, 85′), while Serhou Guirassy (60′, 78′) netted a brace for Dortmund.

As a result, Barcelona climbed to 15 points, securing second place, while Dortmund’s tally remained at 12 points, dropping them to ninth.

Dortmund’s first chance came in the opening minute, when Schlotterbeck connected with a Bensebaini corner, but his header went wide of the post.

Yamal responded in the sixth minute with a powerful shot from outside the box that sailed over the bar.

In the tenth minute, Yamal had another go, with a curling shot from inside the area, but goalkeeper Kobel made the catch.

Barcelona continued to press with a clever outside-foot cross from Yamal on the right in the 14th minute, finding an unmarked Rafinha, who fired just wide of the post.

Dortmund countered with a skilful run by Duranville down the right, who passed to Sabitzer, but his shot went just over the bar in the 17th minute.

Yamal kept up the pressure, trying his luck again with a powerful shot from outside the area in the 21st minute, which Kobel brilliantly saved.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Gittens delivered a low cross from the left, and Guirassy fired a shot that missed the post, bringing the first half to a goalless conclusion.

Barcelona broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute, when Olmo made a brilliant through pass to Rafinha, who raced past Kobel and slotted the ball into the net.

Dortmund responded quickly with a penalty in the 58th minute after Kobersi fouled Guirassy, who calmly converted the spot-kick with a low shot to the right of Peña.

Barcelona sought to regain the lead in the 69th minute when Rafinha set up Olmo, but Kobel made a crucial save to deny his powerful shot.

In the 75th minute, Barcelona scored their second, when Kobel saved Fermin Lopez’s volley from a cross, but Torres followed up and fired into the net.

Dortmund answered in the 79th minute, as Gross received a perfect through ball, and though Peña came out to challenge, Gross passed to Guirassy, who easily scored into an empty net.

In the 85th minute, Barcelona secured the win with a swift counterattack. Pedri started the move, passing to Yamal, who then set up Torres inside the area. With only Kobel to beat, Torres calmly slotted home to seal the 3-2 victory for Barcelona.

The results of Wednesday’s matches come as follows :

  • Sturm Graz 2-3 Lille
  • Crvena Zvezda 1-2 Milan
  • Sparta Prague 2-4 Feyenoord Rotterdam
