A Catalan press report blew up a heavy-caliber surprise, about the Barcelona administration’s refusal to sign Canadian left-back Alfonso Davies, before his move to Bayern Munich.
The newspaper “Sport” reported that Davies was on the doorstep of Barca, in January 2018, 6 months before the completion of his joining the Bavarian club.
Hristo Stoichkov, the former Blaugrana star, had followed Alfonso Davies well, when he was a player in the Canadian ranks of Vancouver, and advised the Barcelona administration to include the 17-year-old at the time.
But the Catalan administration believed that the Canadian player would not be suitable for playing in Europe, and his club then requested 5 million euros to complete the deal. And “Sport”
indicated that Bayern Munich included Davies, in July 2018, for 11 million euros, after Barcelona made a “historic mistake.”
