After Barcelona’s 4-0, Real Madrid Falls to a 3-1 Defeat Once Again

Date:

Real Madrid suffered a heavy 1-3 loss to AC Milan on Tuesday evening in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League group stage, at their home ground, the Santiago Bernabéu.

Milan’s goals came from Malick Thiaw (12th minute), Álvaro Morata (39th minute), and Tijjani Reijnders (73rd minute).

The only goal for Real Madrid was scored by Vinícius Júnior, who converted a penalty in the 23rd minute.

With this defeat, Real Madrid remains stuck on 6 points, sitting in 17th place, while AC Milan also reaches 6 points but climbs to 18th place.

This loss comes at a difficult time for Real Madrid, following their humiliating 4-0 defeat at home to Barcelona in the recent El Clásico.

The match began with early pressure from the home side, as French forward Kylian Mbappé fired a shot over the crossbar in the 2nd minute.

Milan took the lead in the 11th minute, as Malick Thiaw rose to meet a left-sided corner from teammate Christian Pulisic, heading the ball past Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Andriy Lunin and into the net.

Vinícius Júnior attempted to equalize just two minutes later in the 13th minute, firing a powerful shot that was brilliantly saved by Milan’s goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

In the 19th minute, the referee awarded Real Madrid a penalty after a harsh challenge from Emerson on Vinícius Júnior inside the box. The Brazilian stepped up to take the spot-kick, coolly converting with a Panenka-style shot to bring the score level at 1-1.

Lunin was again called into action in the 31st minute, making a superb save to deny Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders, who struck from outside the box.

However, Milan regained the lead in the 39th minute through Álvaro Morata. Pulisic made a run down the left and passed to Rafael Leão, who fired at goal. Lunin made the initial save, but the ball rebounded to Morata, who made no mistake, scoring into the open net.

The first half ended with Milan leading 2-1.

In the second half, Emerson sent in a cross for Leão, who rose to head the ball toward goal, but Lunin was once again alert, making an excellent save to deny Milan their third.
