President of Al-Ahly of Egypt, Mahmoud Al-Khatib, is of the opinion that if his team beat Real Madrid in the Club World Cup semi-finals today, it would not be a miracle.
In an interview with the Spanish newspaper “Marca,” Al-Khatib stated: We have a lot of respect for our opponent, but we also have faith in ourselves… We will take our chances, we will play for victory, and if we win, it won’t be by accident; rather, it will be due to the advantages the team has.”
He then went on to say: Al-Ahly is the club of the century in Africa, and we are in second place in terms of continental titles. In addition, the two clubs have a large fan base. Real Madrid is the club of the century in Europe and the team with the most continental titles in the world. Al-Ahly is the club of the century in Africa.
He went on to say, “We are very happy to be able to play against the Royals,” and “Real Madrid is a very big club with a rich history.”
He continued: We are hoping that the match will be fun. We are accustomed to historical matches in Al-Ahly, despite the fact that Real has the best players in the world and is led by Carlo Ancelotti, a successful coach.
Al-Khatib said, “Encourage Real Madrid” and about being a Real Madrid fan: Al-Ahly is the club of my life for me. Seeing its success makes me happy, but I continue to follow Real Madrid.”
Additionally, when asked about the players he would like to include, ranging from Real Madrid to Al-Ahly, he stated: The presence of a Merengue player would be fantastic. But let’s be honest: African clubs don’t have the money to sign European players who play at this level. Of course, I have a lot of respect for Karim Benzema and Luka Modric.
