Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz confirmed today, Thursday, that American Serena Williams is an important inspiration for him, noting that the match she won, Wednesday, against Estonian Anett Kontaveit, was “fantastic”.
In a press conference after the match, in which he beat Argentine Federico Correa, Alcaraz confirmed: “I can say: Serena Williams inspires me a lot. Her last match was great, and her career is clearly an inspiration to me, and to many players.”
The Spaniard reached the third round of the US Open, defeating Korea 6-2, 6-1, 7-5, at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
In this regard, he said: “I enjoyed playing… Obviously, I’m trying not to look at the pressure, the results, and the arrangement, I’m just trying to show my best level on the field.”
He continued, “I think I’m getting better every day, so I just want to show my best in the next rounds.”
He also considered that the elimination he was subjected to, in the first round of the Montreal Championship, contributed to improving his level.
“I think my level has improved a lot since Montreal,” he said. “Since that loss, I try to enjoy every game, and I think my level has improved because of that.”
In the next round, Alcaraz will face American Jenson Broxby, who eliminated Croatian Borna Coric from the tournament.
