World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus kicked off her Brisbane Open campaign with a dominant win over Mexico’s Renata Zarazua on Tuesday.
Sabalenka triumphed with a 6-4, 6-0 victory to advance to the third round, aiming to surpass last year’s runner-up finish to Elena Rybakina. She will face Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva, who defeated American McCartney-Kessler 6-2, 7-5.
Fourth-seeded Paula Badosa was eliminated early from the Spanish tournament in the second round, losing to Armenia’s Elena Avanesyan 6-3, 1-6, 6-2. Avanesyan will face the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round.
The early exits continued with sixth-seeded Russian Anna Kalinskaya, who fell to American Ashlyn Kruger 6-3, 6-3. Kruger will face the winner of the match between Polish Magdalena Frekh and Dutch Susan Lammens in the next round.
Meanwhile, Russian Mira Andreeva advanced to the third round after defeating compatriot Anna Blinkova 6-4, 6-4. Andreeva will face the winner of the match between Czech Linda Noskova and Romanian Anca Todoni.
