Australia qualified to the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since 2006

The Australian national team defeated the national team of Denmark in the match of the 3rd round of the World Cup with a score of 1:0.

With this victory, the team from Oceania advanced to the playoffs of the tournament, finishing second in Quartet D. Graham Arnold’s team lost to France, who finished first in the group, only on goal difference.

For the first and last time to date, athletes from Australia reached the 1/8 finals of the World Cup in 2006. Then the Australians minimally lost to Italy (0:1).

In the 1/8 finals, the Australians will play with Argentina. It is worth noting that Australia lost the opening round of the championship, losing to the French team with a score of 1:4. In the next meeting, the team rehabilitated itself and beat Tunisia – 1:0.
