The Chinese national team secured a victory against the host nation, Bahrain, with a score of 1-0 today, Thursday, during the fifth round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The only goal of the match was scored by China’s Zhang Yuning in the 90+1 minute. As a result, China’s points increased to 6, placing them in fourth position, sharing the same goal difference as Saudi Arabia, which occupies third place.
Bahrain’s score remained at 5 points, placing them fifth in Group 3. Despite competing on home ground and in front of their supporters, the Bahraini team was unable to capitalize on the opportunity presented by the goalless draw between Saudi Arabia and Australia in the same round. A win against China would have elevated Bahrain’s total to 8 points, securing second place and putting them two points ahead of their nearest rival; however, the defeat left their score unchanged at 5 points.
