Dembele felt pain in the thigh muscles in his left leg, during the first half of the Girona match, today, Saturday, after a sprint with Arnau Martinez, and asked for a change so that the injury would not worsen.
Barcelona said in a brief statement on Twitter: “The tests conducted this evening on the first-team player, Osman Dembele, showed that he had an injury in the anterior rectum of his left thigh.”
He added, “The date of his return will be determined, based on the evolution of his condition.”
And press reports had indicated that the first impression of Barcelona’s medical staff was not good, and preliminary estimates indicated that he would be absent for at least 3 weeks.
It is expected that Dembele will be absent from the matches of Real Betis, Sevilla, Villarreal, and Cadiz in La Liga.
He will also be practically excluded from the first-leg match against Manchester United in the European League on the 16th of next month, provided that he joins the return leg.
