With the win, Barcelona surged to 60 points, leaving Atletico Madrid stuck at 56 points in third place. This victory has added pressure on the chasing teams, as Barcelona looks to stay at the top for the rest of the season.

Early Pressure from Atletico Madrid

The match started with Atletico Madrid applying pressure early on. In the second minute, Antoine Griezmann’s pass found Julian Alvarez, but the forward’s shot went over the bar.

Barcelona responded with Lamine Yamal, who had a chance in the fifth minute after receiving a pass from Dani Olmo. Yamal’s powerful shot hit the left post, denying him a goal.

In the 13th minute, Lewandowski had a chance to score but his header was easily saved by Atletico’s Jan Oblak. In the 20th minute, Atletico Madrid appealed for a penalty after Barcelona defender Iñigo Martinez pulled down Marcos Llorente, but the referee waved away the claims.

Atletico Take the Lead

The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams having chances. Szczesny made a crucial save in the 43rd minute to deny Griezmann twice.

Just before halftime, Atletico Madrid broke the deadlock. Julian Alvarez received a pass from Giuliano Simeone and fired a shot into the far right of Szczesny’s goal, giving Atletico Madrid the 1-0 lead.

Second Half Drama

The second half started with an immediate response from Barcelona. Lamine Yamal fired a shot wide in the 49th minute, and moments later, Atletico Madrid came close when Alvarez’s corner hit the crossbar.

In the 70th minute, Atletico Madrid doubled their lead through Sorloth, who scored from close range after a pass from Gallagher. The home side looked to be in control, but Barcelona quickly struck back.

Barcelona’s Comeback

Barcelona pulled one back in the 72nd minute with Lewandowski’s clinical finish. The striker received a cross from Inigo Martinez and volleyed the ball into the bottom left corner of Oblak’s net, making it 2-1.

Just six minutes later, Ferran Torres equalized for Barcelona. Torres was left unmarked to head a cross from Rafinha into Oblak’s net, making it 2-2.

Atletico Madrid wasted a chance to take the lead again in the 79th minute when Sorloth missed a one-on-one opportunity against Szczesny, shooting wide of the right post.

Late Goals Seal the Win

Barcelona took the lead in the 90+2 minute when Lamine Yamal scored a vital goal. His powerful shot deflected off the Atletico Madrid defense and found its way into the far corner of Oblak’s goal, putting Barcelona 3-2 ahead.
