Barcelona fell to a 1-0 defeat against hosts Real Sociedad on Sunday evening at the Real Arena Stadium, in the 13th round of La Liga.
Real Sociedad’s only goal came from Sheraldo Becker in the 33rd minute.
Despite the defeat, Barcelona remains at the top of La Liga with 33 points, six points clear of second-placed Real Madrid, who have played one fewer match. Sociedad, meanwhile, moved up to eighth place with 18 points.
This was Barcelona’s second La Liga defeat of the season, following a 2-4 loss to Osasuna in the eighth round.
The match began calmly, with both teams testing each other early on. In the 12th minute, Robert Lewandowski thought he had given Barcelona the lead, but after a review by the referee using VAR, the goal was ruled out for an offside position—a controversial decision that many felt went against the Polish striker.
In the 18th minute, Rafinha sent a cross into the box, which was met by Coparsi, but his header sailed over Sociedad’s goal.
Brais Méndez came close to scoring in the 20th minute with a powerful shot, but Barcelona goalkeeper Iñaki Peña was quick to make the save. Méndez continued to press, and in the 29th minute, his second attempt was deflected wide for a corner by Peña’s outstretched hand.
Real Sociedad took the lead in the 33rd minute when Sheraldo Becker finished off a through ball from Susic, calmly shooting past Peña to make it 1-0. The first half ended with Barcelona trailing 1-0.
At the start of the second half, Hansi Flick made a change, bringing on Dani Olmo for the injured Frenkie de Jong, who had suffered a knock before the break.
In the 68th minute, Inigo Martínez made a crucial defensive intervention, blocking a shot from Brais Méndez inside the area, denying him a chance to double Sociedad’s lead.
A few minutes later, in the 73rd minute, Kubo’s shot from a corner kick struck Lewandowski and went wide, wasting a good opportunity for Sociedad.
In the 75th minute, Coparsi made a vital clearance, intercepting a shot from Oscarson as Barcelona continued to struggle to break down Sociedad’s defense.
Despite some late pressure, Barcelona could not find an equalizer, and the match ended with them suffering their second La Liga defeat of the season.
