The 34-year-old is set to leave the Catalan club for Inter Miami next summer, after 15 years in the first team of his childhood club.
Barcelona officials see the midfield as an area of weakness, and are eager to find a suitable replacement for such an important player.
And according to the Catalan newspaper, “ Sport ”, the 25-year-old star of “Wolves” Neves emerged as a main target for Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez.
Both Manchester United and Arsenal were linked with the Portuguese player during the summer and were said to be close to agreeing a deal.
Despite retaining Frenkie de Jong and signing Frank Kessie last summer, Barcelona still feels the need for more options along with Pedri and his midfield partners.
With Neves’ contract at Wolverhampton running until 2024, Barcelona feels the deal should be simple enough.
The two clubs have a recent history of negotiating together, with Wolves loaning Adama Traore to Barcelona in January.
Barcelona also wants to take advantage of its strong relationship with Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes.
