Barcelona secured an impressive 3-0 victory against French side Stade Brest on Tuesday evening in the fifth round of the Champions League group stage.
Barcelona’s goals came courtesy of Robert Lewandowski, who netted twice, and Dani Olmo, scoring in the 10th, 66th, and 90+2 minutes respectively.
This victory elevated Barcelona to 12 points, securing second place in the standings. Meanwhile, Stade Brest remains at 10 points, slipping to ninth position.
The match began with high intensity from the home side as Barcelona applied early pressure. In the 10th minute, Pedri delivered a precise cross to Robert Lewandowski inside the box. Goalkeeper Marco Bizot brought down the Polish striker, prompting the referee to award a penalty. Lewandowski calmly converted, firing into the bottom left corner to give Barcelona an early lead.
Just three minutes later, Fermín López unleashed a powerful shot from inside the area, but it narrowly missed Brest’s goal.
Rafinha then set up Fermín for a one-on-one with Bizot in the 25th minute, but the Brest goalkeeper made an excellent save to deny Barcelona their second goal. Bizot continued his standout performance, stopping another dangerous effort from Fermín López in the 39th minute.
Despite Barcelona’s dominance, the first half ended with the Catalans holding a narrow 1-0 advantage.
The second half began with continued pressure from Barcelona. In the 51st minute, Dani Olmo’s shot struck Brest defender Lee Cardinal.
Just two minutes later, Lewandowski set up Fermín López with a clever backheel pass, but López’s weak shot was saved by goalkeeper Marco Bizot.
Barcelona came close again in the 60th minute when Dani Olmo fired a shot from inside the box, only for defender Chardonnet to clear it off the goal line. However, Olmo would not be denied in the 66th minute, receiving a pass from Gerard Martin, skillfully dribbling past the defense, and slotting the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs to double Barcelona’s lead.
Brest thought they had pulled one back in the 75th minute when Pereira Lage found the net after a one-on-one with Iñaki Peña, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
Barcelona nearly extended their lead in the 85th minute when Pablo Torre shot from inside the box, but his effort went wide of the left post.
Lewandowski capped off a stellar performance in injury time, scoring his second goal of the night. In the 92nd minute, he received a precise pass from Balde inside the box and fired a low shot into the bottom left corner, sealing a 3-0 victory for Barcelona and securing three vital points.
