Barcelona are reportedly targeting South Korean forward Heung-Min Son, with plans to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the current season.
The 32-year-old South Korean forward’s contract with Tottenham Hotspur is set to conclude at the end of the season, and with the opening of the winter transfer window, he is now eligible to engage in discussions with any club.
According to a report from Spanish newspaper El Nacional, Barcelona is one of the clubs interested in securing Son’s services.
Son is not the only player Barcelona is targeting for a free transfer, according to the report. The club’s list of potential signings also includes notable players such as Bayern Munich duo Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sane, as well as German defender Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen.
Barcelona’s pursuit of free transfer “rescue” deals highlights the ongoing strain of its significant financial issues, which have hindered the club’s ability to make major signings in recent years.
Despite being Tottenham’s captain, Son’s performances this season have not met his usual high standards. In the English Premier League, he has scored just 5 goals in 17 matches, a modest tally compared to his previous seasons.
Son was notably absent from Spurs’ starting lineup in their recent 2-1 defeat to Newcastle, missing out due to fatigue.
