French striker Karim Benzema, Real Madrid striker, announced his retirement from international football, after he failed to participate with his country in the Qatar World Cup finals, in which the roosters occupied the runner-up, after losing to Argentina on penalties.
Benzema said through his personal account on Twitter, “I tried my best, there were mistakes that were made until I got to where I am today, and I am proud of that.”
“I wrote my story… and our story is over now,” he added.
Spanish newspapers accused coach Didier Deschamps of excluding Benzema from the World Cup, and that he hastened the decision to exclude the player from the camp before the tournament, and that he could have received treatment in Qatar and returned to participate at least in the final against Argentina.
The Argentine national team, led by Lionel Messi, was crowned the 2022 World Cup title, after defeating France (4-2) on penalties, after a 2-2 draw in normal time, and 3-3 in extra time.
