Late Red Card Costs Barcelona as Celta Vigo Fight Back to Draw

Barcelona were stunned by Celta Vigo’s late fightback on Saturday, squandering a 2-0 lead to draw despite a standout performance from Raphinha. The La Liga leaders seemed in control, but a late sending off of Marc Casado for two yellow cards turned the game on its head. In the span of just four minutes, Barcelona conceded twice, wasting what seemed like certain three points.

Celta Vigo had a strong start, creating an early chance in the opening minutes. Iago Aspas failed to convert from just seven yards out after a fantastic cross. Barcelona capitalized shortly after, as Raphinha raced onto a long ball from Jules Koundé and finished with clinical precision to give the Catalans the lead.

Barcelona were left stunned by Celta Vigo’s dramatic comeback after holding a 2-0 lead. The match saw multiple controversial moments, including a missed penalty decision and a crucial red card for Marc Casado.

Early in the match, Celta had a great opportunity when Iago Aspas broke through on goal but was denied by a strong challenge from Gerard Martin. Despite the pressure from Celta’s direct play, with long balls over the Barcelona defense, goalkeeper Inaki Peña had to be at his best to keep his side ahead.

Just before half-time, Gerard Martin, already on a yellow card, made a reckless tackle on Aspas but escaped a second booking, a decision that angered Celta fans. He was substituted at the break.

The second half was a scrappy affair until Robert Lewandowski extended Barcelona’s lead, finishing smartly after a well-weighted ball from Raphinha. The Brazilian winger could have scored himself minutes later, racing past Celta’s defense, only to see his shot strike the post.

The game turned dramatically after Marc Casado was sent off for a second yellow card, leaving Barcelona vulnerable. Celta capitalized quickly, with Alfonso Gonzalez pouncing on a mistake from Koundé in the box to pull one back.

With the home crowd at Balaídos in full voice, Celta completed their remarkable comeback as Hugo Alvarez fired in a brilliant finish, securing a deserved point and leaving Barcelona ruing their missed chances and late collapse.
