Chelsea continues their season’s good streak with a win over Leicester City

Date:

Chelsea bounced back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Saturday evening at King Power Stadium, in the 12th round of the Premier League.

Nicolas Jackson (15′) and Enzo Fernandez (75′) netted for Chelsea, while Jordan Ayew (90+4′) scored Leicester’s only goal.

As a result, Chelsea moved up to third place with 22 points, while Leicester remained in 16th place with 10 points.

Chelsea’s first chance came in the 13th minute when Felix pounced on a clearance from the Leicester defense, but his shot went wide of the post. In a similar situation moments later, Felix followed up another clearance and attempted a volley from the edge of the area, but it sailed over the crossbar.

Chelsea took the lead in the 15th minute after a defensive mistake by Weiss, who struggled to clear the ball. Enzo seized the opportunity, passing to Jackson, who calmly slotted the ball into the net.

The Blues nearly doubled their advantage in the 30th minute, when Madueke fired a shot from the right side of the penalty area, but Leicester goalkeeper Hermansen made a brilliant save, deflecting the ball for a corner.

Leicester’s first significant attack came in the 39th minute, when McAteer’s curling shot from distance narrowly missed the target, going just wide of the post.

In the 42nd minute, Ndidi found himself completely unmarked inside the area and connected with a low cross, but his shot surprisingly went wide of the goal.

Jackson then sent a cross to Madueke, who had the chance to capitalize on a mistake by the goalkeeper. However, he fired wide of the post, leaving Chelsea with a 1-0 lead as the first half came to a close.

In the second half, Jackson had a shot saved by Hermansen, but Palmer pounced on the rebound in front of an open goal. However, his attempt struck Madueke’s foot and went out for a goal kick.

Chelsea continued their push in the 64th minute when Madueke set up Fernandes on the edge of the area, but Fernandes’ shot went wide of the post.

The Blues sealed the victory in the 75th minute. Cucurella sent in a cross that Jackson met with a header, which was saved by Hermansen. Fernandes then followed up with a header that found the back of the net, making it 2-0.

Madueke had another opportunity in the 80th minute, with a shot from inside the area, but it was weak and easily collected by Hermansen.

Leicester were awarded a penalty in the 90+4th minute after Lavia fouled Reid. Ayew stepped up and converted the penalty, but it wasn’t enough as Chelsea held on to win 2-1.
