Southampton beat Manchester City 2-0 in the 1/4 finals of the English League Cup to reach the 1/2 finals. The meeting took place at the St. Mary’s stadium.
In the 23rd minute, 20-year-old Frenchman Sekou Mara opened the scoring. After 5 minutes, the Senegalese midfielder Moussa Genepo doubled the advantage of the hosts.
No goals were scored in the second half, despite the fact that Erlin Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, and Rodri appeared on the field after the break.
Josep Guardiola’s team was eliminated from the tournament. Southampton’s next opponent will be known after the draw.
