Tottenham coach Antonio Conte has ruled out his team from the Premier League title race, after losing to Manchester United 0-2 on Wednesday evening.
Tottenham suffered a defeat at Old Trafford on Wednesday, and Conte admitted the north London side were “struggling” in high-level matches in the Premier League.
Tottenham have yet to surpass a top-four side, as they drew 2-2 with Chelsea last August, and also lost 3-1 to rivals Arsenal earlier this month.
That is why the Italian coach does not expect his team to compete for the Premier League title.
The former Chelsea boss insists that Tottenham still “needs time” despite the significant improvement since his arrival in November. “Every time we play a high-level match, we struggle. We fought against Chelsea, and Chelsea dominated the game… I want to be honest,”
Conte said in comments reported by The Sun.
He added: “With Arsenal, we lost, and we lost against United. Of course, when the level is high, we fight.”
“I hear sometimes that we (Tottenham) are title contenders and I think we need time. In just 10 (or) 11 months, you can’t go from ninth to title contender the following year.”
Tottenham are now preparing for a tough Premier League clash against Newcastle on Sunday at home.
