Everton Halts Chelsea’s Momentum

Date:

Everton ended Chelsea’s winning streak with a 0-0 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday in the 17th round of the Premier League.

With the draw, Chelsea increased their tally to 35 points, holding onto second place, while Everton climbed to 16 points, sitting in 15th position.

Chelsea had been on a run of five consecutive Premier League victories before being held by the Toffees in today’s match.

Chelsea created the first chance of the match in the third minute when Cole Palmer made a penetrating run from midfield, ending with a low shot from outside the box that narrowly missed the post.

Battling through heavy wind and rain, Chelsea threatened again in the 10th minute. Neto fired a low shot from inside the area, but Jordan Pickford made a comfortable save.

Everton launched their first offensive effort in the 18th minute with a free kick taken by Ashley Young, whose direct shot was securely handled by goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.

Chelsea missed a clear opportunity to score in the 26th minute when Palmer delivered a precise low cross from the right side of the box, setting up Jackson in a one-on-one with Pickford. Jackson struck the ball low, but the English goalkeeper made an excellent save. Justo followed up with a header, but it sailed over the crossbar.

In the 31st minute, Pickford made a mistake by coming out to challenge a through ball on the left. He decided to retreat, and Jackson attempted to capitalize on the goalkeeper’s advanced position, firing a shot towards goal. Pickford managed to push it away for a corner.

From the resulting corner, the ball sailed past everyone and reached Jackson at the far post, but his header hit the post.

Everton nearly broke the deadlock in the 38th minute with a powerful long-range shot from Mangala, but Sanchez made a brilliant save. The first half ended with the score still level at 0-0.

At the beginning of the second half, Everton wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 50th minute. Harrison, unmarked inside the box, received a through ball and found himself one-on-one with Sanchez. He fired a shot, but the Chelsea goalkeeper made a superb save.

Chelsea responded in the 62nd minute with a shot from Enzo on the edge of the area, but Pickford was quick to make a double save.

Everton pushed for a winner in the 77th minute when substitute Lindstrom delivered a low cross. Sanchez had to make a difficult save, and Ndaye followed up with a shot, but it was blocked by Chelsea’s defence.

In the 86th minute, Mangala tried his luck with a curling shot from outside the box, but Sanchez easily caught the ball. The match ended in a 0-0 draw.
