Fears and doubts grow in United’s ranks after another fall

Date:

Manchester United endured another setback in the English Premier League, losing 2-0 to host Wolverhampton on Thursday evening in the 18th round.

Matheus Cunha (58′) and Hwang Hee-chan (90+9′) scored for Wolverhampton in their 2-0 win over Manchester United. United played with ten men from the 47th minute after their captain, Bruno Fernandes, was sent off.

With this victory, Wolverhampton’s points tally increased to 15, lifting them to 17th place, while Manchester United remained on 22 points, sitting in 14th place.

The two teams traded attacks at the beginning of the match, with Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot receiving a pass from his teammate and fellow Portuguese, Bruno Fernandes. Dalot then fired a curling shot in the 20th minute, but Wolverhampton goalkeeper Jose Sa made a brilliant save to deny him.

In the 36th minute, Wolverhampton full-back Ait Nouri bypassed his marker, Mazraoui, and delivered a cross into the box, but none of his teammates could convert it into a goal.

Early in the second half, Bruno Fernandes was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Semedo and was sent off in the 47th minute.

Wolverhampton thought they had taken the lead in the 49th minute when Strand Larsen scored, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside.

The pressure from Wolverhampton finally paid off in the 56th minute when Cunha delivered a curling corner kick that found its way into the net over goalkeeper Onana, putting the hosts 1-0 up.

With a numerical disadvantage, Manchester United’s efforts to equalize lacked conviction.

Anthony had a go in the 71st minute with a low shot, but it sailed wide of the right post.

Strand Larsen had another goal ruled out for offside in the 77th minute.

In the ninth minute of stoppage time, substitute Hwang Hee-chan sealed the win for Wolverhampton, scoring their second goal after finishing off a pass from Cunha.
