Fiorentina secure draw against Juventus

Fiorentina secured a dramatic 2-2 draw at Juventus’ home ground on Sunday evening, in the 18th round of the Italian Serie A.

Khephren Thuram scored twice for Juventus in the 20th and 48th minutes, while Moise Kean and Riccardo Sotil netted for Fiorentina in the 38th and 87th minutes, respectively.

With this draw, Juventus moved to 32 points, sitting in sixth place, level on points with Fiorentina, who occupy fifth place due to a better goal difference.

Juventus had their first opportunity in the 5th minute when Conceicao delivered a cross to Vlahovic, who rose to head the ball wide.

The match was temporarily halted for several minutes due to racist chants from Fiorentina fans directed at Juventus striker Vlahovic. Play resumed in the 8th minute.

In the 20th minute, the home side took the lead through Thuram, who broke through the defence and fired a low shot to the right of goalkeeper De Gea.

The visitors were awarded a free kick just outside the area, but Sotil’s shot was blocked by the wall, and despite calls for a penalty on Koopmeiners, Adli’s follow-up effort went over the bar.

Fiorentina equalized in the 38th minute through Moise Kean, who capitalized on a cross from the left and headed the ball into the net.

Goalkeeper De Gea was instrumental in keeping Juventus ahead, making a brilliant save in the 41st minute. After receiving the ball inside the area, Dusan fired a powerful left-footed shot, but De Gea reacted quickly, pushing the ball away with his right hand for a corner.

Locatelli came close to scoring a spectacular goal just before halftime with a rocket shot from outside the box, but it sailed wide of the crossbar.

Three minutes into the second half, Thuram scored his second goal of the match and put Juventus ahead, capitalizing on a precise through ball from Koopmeiners and a costly mistake by Cataldi, who passed the ball directly to the Frenchman. Thuram calmly went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net.

Moise Kean had a chance to score his second goal shortly after, receiving a long pass from Beltran that sailed over Kalulu. Kean drove into the box and fired a shot, but Di Gregorio was well-positioned to make the save.

Substitute Kenan Yildiz came close to doubling Juventus’ lead in the 74th minute. His low shot deflected off a defender and went wide of the post, resulting in a dangerous corner kick. Gatti met the cross with a header, but De Gea was quick to react and made a brilliant save to keep the score at 2-1.

Fiorentina responded immediately with a powerful shot from Dudu, but Di Gregorio was able to gather the ball and maintain Juventus’ lead.

Seconds after coming on, Nico Gonzalez made an immediate impact, sprinting down the left side into the box before unleashing a powerful left-footed shot that narrowly missed, hitting the side netting.

Fiorentina found their equalizer in the 87th minute, courtesy of Riccardo Sotil. After a mistake by Cambiasso, the Viola launched a series of attacks, with Kean’s shot blocked by the defence. The ball fell to Sotil, who calmly slotted it into the net to level the score.

In the dying moments of the match, De Gea once again showcased his brilliance, denying Conceicao a potential game-winning goal in the 90+1 minute. Conceicao broke into the box and fired a shot, but the Spanish goalkeeper was quick to react, saving it with his foot to preserve the draw.
