Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is aiming to reach a notable milestone in today’s La Liga match against Real Sociedad.
According to Catalan newspaper Sport, a win today would see Flick match the longest consecutive winning streak in Barça’s history under former coach Xavi Hernández.
Xavi set this record during the 2022-2023 season, securing eight straight victories between January and February, before the run was halted by a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the Camp Nou in the Europa League.
Barcelona has now won seven consecutive matches since their defeat to Osasuna in La Liga.
A victory today would bring Flick just three wins shy of equaling Pep Guardiola’s record of 11 straight victories with Barça during the 2008-2009 season.
However, the current streak still falls short of the 17 consecutive wins achieved by Frank Rijkaard’s team between October 2005 and January 2006.
