Flick Discusses Barcelona’s Sevilla Clash and Team Updates

Date:

Barcelona coach Hans Flick has recently shared insights as he discusses Barcelona’s Sevilla clash. With the team gearing up for their 23rd round La Liga fixture against Sevilla on Sunday, Flick focused on the final preparations for the match at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium. The coach emphasized the importance of this upcoming game while providing updates on key players and the team’s overall readiness.

Pre-Match Focus: Sevilla and Barcelona’s Strategy

Flick acknowledged the lively atmosphere in Seville, noting that it would be similar to the one Barcelona faced in Valencia. However, he made it clear that the team’s primary focus is on playing their own game. “We want to play our football, that’s the most important thing,” said Flick during his press conference.

The coach stressed that the team’s strategy and performance would be the key to overcoming any challenges posed by the enthusiastic crowd. Barcelona’s confidence, he explained, comes from their collective readiness and unity.

Watching the Madrid Derby and Team Preparation

When asked about the Madrid derby, Flick revealed his plans for the day. “First, I’ll watch the Barcelona B team’s match, then have dinner, and if I have time, I’ll watch the derby,” Flick shared. He expressed excitement for the match, acknowledging that it’s a significant clash between two of Europe’s elite teams.

Despite this, Flick’s focus remains on Barcelona’s upcoming fixture, ensuring the squad is fully prepared for the Sevilla game.

Squad Depth: Key Players and Injury Updates

Flick highlighted the strength of Barcelona’s squad depth, noting that the team is no longer reliant on just 11 or 12 players. “We have a full squad with players of similar quality,” Flick stated. He emphasized that fresh legs and tactical flexibility will be vital as the team faces crucial matches, including the Sevilla clash.

The coach mentioned several players, including Ferran Torres, who is versatile and ready to step in after recovering from injury. Flick also noted that Gavi, Olmo, and Inigo are all fit to play, further bolstering the team’s options.

Ter Stegen’s Recovery and Future Plans

Flick provided an update on Marc-André ter Stegen’s condition, indicating that the goalkeeper’s recovery is progressing well. However, Flick stated that he would need to consult with the medical staff for more details. “We are happy with Ter Stegen’s progress. He’s improving every day,” he confirmed.

In terms of rest, Flick reiterated the importance of giving the players some time off. With a match-free Monday following the Sevilla game, the coach hopes to make the most of the extra training time.

Managing Expectations and Fati’s Situation

Flick was asked about Ansu Fati’s potential departure, to which he replied that there had been conversations with the player, but nothing definitive had been decided. “Fati is improving, and we will see what happens in the coming days,” Flick mentioned, suggesting that Fati’s future will be clarified soon.

The coach also discussed the challenge of managing player expectations and egos, especially with so many players eager to prove themselves. “We have 17 or 18 players who are capable of playing important minutes, and I’m happy with the positive atmosphere in the team,” Flick said. This collective desire to perform has created a competitive yet supportive environment, which Flick is pleased to see.

Flick’s Long-Term Future and Referee Decisions

When asked about his contract, Flick confirmed he’s under no pressure to renew at this time. “I have two years left on my contract, and I enjoy working here,” Flick shared, emphasizing his satisfaction with the team and the club’s potential.

Flick also briefly touched on the subject of refereeing decisions, acknowledging the challenges referees face. He suggested that while it could be helpful for referees to explain their decisions, ultimately, their rulings are final.
