Barcelona coach Hansi Flick discussed the final preparations for tomorrow’s match against Leganes in the 17th round of La Liga.
In the pre-match press conference, Flick stated, “I told the team that the outcome depends on us. We must maintain full focus. All our competitors are looking for weaknesses and will fight for points, but it ultimately comes down to our performance. We are approaching the match against Leganes with complete focus.”
Regarding the return of injured players, Flick stated, “It’s natural for players to need time to get back to their best after an injury. We’re happy to have some players returning. Araujo and Christensen have rejoined training, and Araujo looks in great shape. His physical progress has been excellent.”
He further stated, “Our complete attention is on the Leganes match tomorrow; we are not focusing on Atletico in the upcoming round.”
On individual players, he remarked, “I don’t focus on individuals; it’s the team that matters. In Dortmund, De Jong played, and we won. You saw how the team celebrated, including Frenkie. “It’s not about shielding him—he understands exactly what is required of him. We’re here to support our players so they can reach their highest potential.”
Flick continued, “This is true for everyone, particularly for those returning from injury. I hope we can help them regain their previous form and rhythm. We need to support all our players, including Gavi and Araujo. Our job is to care for them, and I believe they’re doing everything to reach the highest level of professionalism.”
On Araujo’s participation, he explained, “The plan is for Araujo to play some minutes tomorrow, though I’m not sure how many. He may start, but if not, he’ll definitely play. He’s ready.”
Speaking of Rafinha, he added, “Today is Rafinha’s birthday, and he’s full of positive energy. I’ll speak with him tomorrow, and we haven’t decided yet if we’ll give him a rest.”
On his two-match suspension, Flick admitted, “My reaction wasn’t good, that’s clear. I tried to speak with Frenkie, and there was an issue between Inigo and Vitor Roque to avoid mistakes. I instructed my staff not to complain about the referees. I don’t want to waste energy on things we can’t change.”
He explained, “Once the referee makes a decision, it’s final unless it’s something that can be reviewed by VAR.”. We have to accept the red card. It was hard for me, as I had just arrived and was sent off, but I accepted the suspension. I may need to work on improving my behaviour. I just want the referees to judge fairly, not just with Barcelona.”
Flick stressed, “We must accept the referee’s decisions. My players do an excellent job. They don’t collectively complain about the referees; their behaviour is great and different from previous years. Our philosophy is to focus on what we can improve. Referees can also improve, as we all make mistakes.”
He wrapped up by saying, “I will no longer comment on the referees. You focus too much on what I say, but I won’t be doing that anymore.”
Regarding assistant coach Markus Sorg managing the next match, Flick stated, “We have great communication with Markus. He’s an experienced coach with a deep knowledge of football. I trust him, and I’m confident he can manage things well.”
Finally, when asked how he will communicate with the bench tomorrow, he said, “The last thing I’ll say to the players will be at the hotel. If we win, I’ll hug the players the next day.”
