Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has announced that he is leaving the club and ending his football career.
The 35-year-old Spaniard posted a video on his social networks in which he watches a video of his participation from the academy of the Catalan team and remembers his childhood, and then comes to the Camp Nou stadium.
“You fans have given me everything. Now that all my childhood dreams have come true, I want to say that I have made a decision. It’s time to finish your journey. I have always said that for me there are no teams other than Barcelona. So it will be. On Saturday I will play my last match at Camp Nou. I will become an ordinary fan, I will support the team. I will pass on my love for Barcelona to my children, just as my family passed it on to me. And you know me – sooner or later I’ll be back. See you at Camp Nou. Barcelona forever,” Piqué said.
Piqué is a graduate of Barcelona. In 2004, he left the club’s academy and moved to Manchester United, where he played until 2008 (with the exception of the 2006/07 season, when he was on loan at Zaragoza). As part of Manchester United, Piqué won the English Championship, the Super Cup of the country, and the English League Cup, and also became the winner of the Champions League.
In 2008 Pique returned to Barcelona. For 14 years in the Catalan club, the defender won the Spanish championship 8 times, won the Spanish Cup 7 times, and the country’s Super Cup 6 times, and also won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the club world championship 3 times.
As part of the Spanish national team, Pique became the world and European champion.
The last match of his career at the home stadium of Barcelona – Camp Nou – Pique will play on November 5 against Almeria in the 13th round of the Spanish championship.
