Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola spoke about his team’s surprising 4-0 loss to Tottenham in the Premier League. This marked City’s fifth consecutive defeat across all competitions, with the heavy loss occurring at the Etihad Stadium in the 12th round of the Premier League.
Guardiola told BBC Sport, “We are in a fragile state right now; our defense is not up to standard.”
He continued, “We started the match well, but struggled to turn our chances into goals. Once we conceded, it became increasingly difficult to recover.”
“It would be a mistake to change our approach; life and sport don’t work like fairy tales,” Guardiola said. “Sometimes you just have to accept tough situations. There’s no one to blame, so all we can do is keep putting in the hard work.”
He continued, “Now more than ever, we need to stick together. What will truly define us is how we respond when things go wrong—by standing tall and facing it with courage.”
Guardiola also expressed, “I don’t know how the rest of the season will unfold, but I won’t lose trust in these players, not for a second. No team in the world can maintain success year after year for eight, nine, or ten seasons.”
He wrapped up with, “Of course, things aren’t perfect, but we are analyzing everything. We’ll move on to the next match and see what happens.”
