Haaland delivers again, as Man City trashes West Ham

Date:

Manchester City continued their strong form with a 4-1 victory over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, securing their second consecutive win in the 20th round of the English Premier League.

Manchester City took the lead in the 10th minute with an own goal from Vladimir Coufal. Haaland then added a brace in the 42nd and 52nd minutes, while Phil Foden contributed the fourth goal in the 58th minute. West Ham’s sole response came from Nicholas Füllkrug, who scored their only goal in the 71st minute.

With the victory, Manchester City held on to sixth place with 34 points, while West Ham stayed in 13th place with 23 points.

The match started with West Ham creating early chances, as Mohammed Kudus made a dangerous run into the penalty area, only to fire his shot narrowly wide of the right post.

West Ham continued to threaten moments later when Tomas Soucek received a pass inside the box, but his shot went just wide of the left post.

City took advantage of the first real chance in the game, taking the lead through an own goal. A cross from Savinho on the left side of the penalty area deflected off Vladimir Coufal, sending the ball past goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and into the net.

After a strong attack, West Ham came close to equalizing when Wan-Bissaka delivered a cross into the penalty area. However, no teammates were able to connect, and the defence cleared the danger.

Savinho then took a shot from the center of the penalty area, aiming for the middle of the goal. Areola was able to make the save, and he followed it up by denying Bernardo Silva’s attempt in a similar fashion.

The visitors’ goalkeeper was called into action again, making a brilliant save to stop a powerful shot from Rico Lewis just outside the penalty area.

Haaland extended Manchester City’s lead after meeting a perfect cross from Savinho on the left side. He rose to head the ball into the net, giving City a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, West Ham had a dangerous chance with a shot from Coufal, but goalkeeper Ortega’s quick reflexes kept the ball out of the net.

City then put the game beyond reach by scoring a third goal early in the second half. A pass from Savinho found Haaland inside the penalty area, and he took advantage of Areola’s off-the-line positioning to chip the ball into the net.

City wasted no time in putting the game out of reach, adding a fourth goal just three minutes after the third. A defensive error allowed De Bruyne to slip a clever pass to Foden inside the penalty area, and Foden made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball into the net.

Paqueta came close to pulling one back for West Ham with a powerful free kick from outside City’s penalty area. His shot rattled the crossbar and went wide, keeping the scoreline intact.

Soucek squandered a clear opportunity to score with a shot straight at Ortega. However, he redeemed himself moments later by setting up a goal for his teammate Fulcrook. Fulcrook capitalized on the assist, delivering a low shot that found its way past Ortega into the net.

Somerville had a chance to score when a ball bounced off the City defence, but his left-footed shot sailed over the goal. Soucek also tried his luck with a powerful header from a cross, but it flew just past the left post.

As the match neared its end, West Ham pushed harder for a second goal. Paqueta nearly scored with a surprise shot, but his effort narrowly missed the right post, leaving the score unchanged.
