Eden Hazard, captain of the Belgium national team, announced his retirement from international football, following his early exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Belgium was eliminated from the group stage of the World Cup, after finishing third behind Morocco and Croatia, although it was among the teams nominated for the title before the start of the tournament.
Hazard issued a statement on his official Facebook page, saying: “The page is closed today. Thank you for your love. Thank you for your endless support. Thank you for all the happiness shared since 2008.”
He added, “I decided to end my international career, I will miss you guys.”
Hazard played 126 times for the Belgium national team, scoring 33 goals and assisting 36 others.
