Hugo Lloris retires from the French national team

Date:

French captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has retired from the Tricolor. The 36-year-old veteran announced this in L’Equipe.

“I prefer to retire at my best. I’m finishing now, until the next international break in March, out of respect for my teammates and coaches. Now Mick Meignan should take the place of the first number of the French national team, ”the goalkeeper said in a statement.

As part of France, Lloris spent 145 matches, which is a record for the national team. As captain, the goalkeeper led his team to the field in 121 matches, which is also a unique achievement. Together with the French national team, Lloris became the winner of the World Cup in 2018, the League of Nations in 2021, and also the vice-champion of the world in 2022.
