Liverpool claimed a commanding 6-3 away victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday in the 17th round of the English Premier League.
Liverpool’s goals came from Luis Diaz (twice), Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Mohamed Salah (twice), with strikes in the 23rd, 36th, 45+1, 54th, 61st, and 85th minutes.
For Tottenham Hotspur, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke found the back of the net, scoring in the 41st, 72nd, and 83rd minutes, respectively.
With this result, Liverpool strengthened their position at the top of the table, reaching 39 points, while Tottenham remained on 23 points, sitting in 11th place.
Liverpool were the first to threaten early on, with Salah nearly scoring the opening goal from inside the penalty area, but his shot went just past the right post.
Luis Diaz then attempted a shot from the edge of the area, but it lacked accuracy and went wide of the goal.
Salah had another chance shortly after, meeting a cross inside the area with a direct touch, but Forster was able to make an easy save.
Liverpool continued to press, and Gakpo took a shot, but it went well wide of Tottenham’s goal. Tottenham’s first attempt came from Sarr, who fired a shot from outside the penalty area, but it went just past the left post.
Salah almost broke the deadlock when he skillfully dribbled past three Spurs defenders and fired a powerful shot with his right foot near the goal, only for the ball to hit the crossbar.
Liverpool finally took the lead when Alexander-Arnold delivered a perfect cross from the right, and Diaz rose to head it to the left of Forster.
Tottenham responded almost immediately, with Kulusevski firing a rocket shot towards the far left corner, but it went wide.
Forster prevented Diaz from scoring again with a remarkable save, blocking a powerful low shot.
Liverpool extended their lead soon after, with Mac Allister meeting a cross from the left and directing a perfect header into the net.
Tottenham quickly pulled one back through Maddison, who fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that Alisson couldn’t stop.
However, Liverpool didn’t allow Tottenham to celebrate for long. Salah sent a through pass to Szoboszlai inside the penalty area, who calmly placed the ball into the net, giving the Reds their third goal just before the end of the first half.
A few minutes into the second half, Liverpool added a fourth goal. Salah pounced on a ball that had bounced off Tottenham’s defence following a cross from Gakpo, and slotted it into the net.
Szoboszlai missed a golden opportunity to score the fifth goal after receiving a long pass from Alisson. He found himself one-on-one with Forster, dribbled past him, but shockingly shot the ball wide of the goal.
Szoboszlai made up for the miss by providing an assist to Salah inside the penalty area. Salah took the pass and scored the fifth goal with a direct touch into the net.
Forster made a great save shortly after, blocking a shot from Arnold outside the penalty area and turning it into a corner kick. He then caught a scissor kick attempt from Diaz, which was directed towards the far right corner.
Tottenham managed to pull one back, reducing the score to 5-2. Kulusevski received the ball inside the penalty area and struck it with a direct shot into the net.
Diaz almost scored a stunning goal when he took advantage of Forster’s advanced position. He chipped the ball over the goalkeeper, but it hit the roof of the net and went over the bar.
Tottenham ignited the match in the final minutes when Solanke scored their third goal. He met a chipped ball with a volley that Alisson couldn’t stop.
Forster made a strong save shortly after, blocking a powerful shot from Diaz on the left side.
Diaz sealed the win for Liverpool by scoring their sixth goal, receiving a through pass from Salah and placing a direct shot to the right of Forster.
Tottenham’s Johnson tried to score against Alisson with a shot to the goalkeeper’s right, but Alisson was alert and made the save. The match ended with Liverpool securing a 6-3 victory.
