In the last game of Van Nistelrooy as head coach, United hut Leicester City with 3-0

Date:

Manchester United extended their positive run following the dismissal of former manager Erik ten Hag, securing a 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday evening in the 11th round of the English Premier League.

Manchester United’s goals came from captain Bruno Fernandes (17th minute), Leicester City defender Victor Christiansen (own goal, 38th minute), and Alejandro Garnacho (82nd minute).

With the win, Manchester United moved up to 15 points, sitting in 13th place, while Leicester City remained on 10 points in 15th place.

Former coach Ten Hag was sacked after losing to West Ham (2-1) in the ninth round of the Premier League, and Ruud van Nistelrooy took over the task temporarily instead.

United then succeeded in beating Leicester City (5-2) in the round of 16 of the League Cup, drawing with Chelsea (1-1) in the Premier League, and beating PAOK of Greece (2-0) in the Europa League.

Manchester United, playing their final match under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, started slowly, struggling to break down Leicester City’s defense. The first 15 minutes saw little danger for either goal.

United broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring. Receiving a back-heel pass from Amad Diallo, Fernandes took a shot from the edge of the penalty area, sending the ball to the left of Leicester goalkeeper Hermansen.

Leicester responded in the 24th minute with a free-kick from Bonanotte. Wilfred Ndidi rose to head it, but the ball went over the crossbar. Four minutes later, Bonanotte sent a pass over the United defense for Ndidi to follow up, but goalkeeper Andre Onana was quick off his line to narrow the angle and deny him.

Leicester captain Harry Winks tried his luck with a powerful shot in the 33rd minute, but Onana was equal to it.

United doubled their lead in the 38th minute when left-back Noussair Mazraoui lifted the ball into the box. Fernandes attempted to head it, but it ricocheted off his knee and then off Leicester defender Victor Christiansen’s leg, finding the back of the net for an own goal.

In stoppage time of the first half, Diallo led a counterattack but saw his shot saved by Hermansen.

The second half started slowly, with little action in the opening 15 minutes. United made a double substitution, bringing on Alejandro Garnacho and Jonny Evans for Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot.

Leicester dominated possession in the final third but struggled to threaten Onana’s goal. Their best chance came in the 69th minute when Jordan Ayew fired a shot, but Onana made the save.

Garnacho had a chance to seal the game in the 71st minute after a pass from Fernandes, but he miscontrolled the ball and lost possession in the box.

United made two more changes, with Joshua Zirkzee and Christian Eriksen replacing Rasmus Højlund and Casemiro. The third goal came in the 82nd minute. Fernandes passed to Garnacho on the left side, and the Argentine winger cut inside before curling a brilliant shot into the top corner to confirm the win.
