The National Court of Spain has acquitted the Brazilian Neymar and the other defendants in the case of corruption in the transfer of a football player from Santos to Barcelona, according to the official website of the court.
During the trial, which started on October 17, falsification of the contract was not proven and no intent was found to harm the Brazilian investment group DIS, which owned part of the rights to transfer the football player. Spanish prosecutors demanded two years in prison for Neymar and a fine of 10 million euros.
Earlier, DIS, which previously owned 40% of the rights to Neymar, sued the footballer. The organization said it received a smaller amount than it should have for the transfer of the striker to the Catalan club, because the announced amount of the transfer was underestimated compared to the real one. The court document alleged that Barcelona initiated negotiations with the player in 2011, paying his family 40 million euros for a commitment to transfer after the expiration of the contract with Santos in 2014, thus preventing other clubs from getting him.
