Juventus extend their unbeaten run as they defeat Monza

Date:

Juventus secured a 2-1 away victory over Monza in the 17th round of the Italian Serie A.

Weston McKennie and Nicolas Gonzalez scored for the Turin side, while Samuele Birindelli netted the hosts’ only goal.

Juventus remains the only team in Serie A that has not been defeated this season. With seven wins and ten draws from 17 matches, they have accumulated 31 points and sit in sixth place in the league table.

Monza, on the other hand, stayed in last place, 20th, with just 10 points and only one win from 17 games.

The match started at a fast pace, with Pirindelli firing a low shot in the opening seconds, but it was easily saved by Juventus goalkeeper Di Gregorio.

Juventus responded less than a minute later with a near goal, after D’Ambrosio made a passing error. The ball deflected off Yildiz’s foot and narrowly missed the post.

In the 10th minute, Gonzalez made a passing mistake, allowing Monza striker Motta to intercept the ball. Motta passed it to Caprari, who made a run into the box and fired a low shot that went just wide of Juventus’ left post.

Juventus came close to scoring again when goalkeeper Turati made a crucial save. He came out to clear a corner kick, but the ball bounced in front of goal to Gonzalez, who met it with a header. Turati reacted quickly and deflected the header out for another corner.

The resulting corner kick led to Juventus’ first goal in the 14th minute. Koopmeiners delivered a precise cross into the 6-yard box, where McKennie was able to meet it with a simple shot from 4 yards out, scoring amidst a lack of defensive marking and no goalkeeper intervention.

In the 22nd minute, Monza equalized with a well-delivered cross that Kalulu failed to reach. Pirindelli latched onto the ball and fired a one-touch shot into the net to make it 1-1.

Juventus regained the lead in the 39th minute. A defensive mix-up in Monza’s ranks saw the ball fall inside the 6-yard box. Locatelli touched it, and Gonzalez followed up with a shot to put Juve ahead 2-1.

Before the end of the first half, Monza had two chances to equalize. Dani Motta failed to capitalize on both opportunities, shooting at defenders and missing the chance to bring Monza level.

Monza began the second half with intent, creating two chances in quick succession. The first came from a counterattack, where Bianco fired a rocket at goal, but Di Gregorio made a brilliant save. The second chance came from Caprari, but his shot was also blocked.

Juve responded with two quick chances of their own, both from the impressive Gonzalez. He fired two powerful shots from the edge of the area, but goalkeeper Turati was alert and kept them out.

In the 70th minute, D’Ambrosio had a great opportunity for Monza, receiving the ball on the edge of the area and firing a powerful shot, but it went wide of the post.

Yildiz came close to sealing the win for Juventus when he rose to meet a cross and headed it towards goal. However, Turati made an excellent save to keep Monza’s hopes alive.

Despite Monza’s late pressure and possession, they were unable to break through Juventus’ defence, and the match ended with a hard-fought 2-1 victory for Juve.
