Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, has acknowledged that the Catalan club has lost out on a major transfer to their bitter rivals, Real Madrid, this season.
According to Spanish outlet “Defensa Central”, German coach Hans Flick, who is now managing Barcelona, had requested that Laporta sign English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool.
Arnold’s contract with the Reds expires next summer, and he will be free to negotiate with any club starting in January. The report also notes that Flick intends to deploy Alexander-Arnold as the team’s right-back while shifting current Barcelona player Jules Koundé back to his primary role at center-back.
However, “Defensa Central” revealed that Laporta informed Flick that Barcelona had already lost this transfer battle to Real Madrid. The English defender is expected to join the Madrid giants for free next summer.
