Liverpool lose 3-1 to Chelsea after winning EPL title

In their first outing since winning the Premier League title, Liverpool lose 3-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a heated match on Sunday night. Enzo Fernandez, an own goal from Jarrell Quansah, and a late penalty from Cole Palmer secured three valuable points for the Blues, while Virgil van Dijk scored Liverpool’s only goal.

Chelsea Strike Early Through Fernandez

Chelsea wasted no time asserting dominance, scoring within the first three minutes. Pedro Neto sent a low cross into the box, which Enzo Fernandez controlled neatly before drilling the ball into the bottom corner past Alisson to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead.

Madueke and Jackson kept the pressure on Liverpool’s defense, while Gakpo had Liverpool’s first chance in the 9th minute with a powerful shot that Robert Sanchez managed to save.

Chelsea appeared to double their lead in the first half when Madueke beat Alisson and scored, but the goal was ruled out for offside against Jackson in the buildup. The first half ended with Chelsea in control and 1-0 up.

Quansah’s Own Goal Extends Chelsea’s Lead

Ten minutes into the second half, Chelsea added a second under dramatic circumstances. Palmer dribbled past Tsimikas and delivered a dangerous cross that ricocheted off Madueke and was ultimately turned into Liverpool’s net by Jarrell Quansah for an own goal in the 56th minute.

Alisson denied Jackson moments later with a brilliant save, while Van Dijk and Nunez both missed decent opportunities to cut the deficit. Mohamed Salah also went close with a header that drifted just wide.

Late Goals Seal the Result

In the 85th minute, Liverpool finally responded. Captain Virgil van Dijk headed home a corner, giving the Reds a glimmer of hope at 2-1.

However, any thoughts of a comeback were crushed in stoppage time. Moises Caicedo was fouled inside the box by Quansah, earning Chelsea a penalty. Cole Palmer calmly stepped up and converted to make it 3-1 and secure all three points.

With this result, Liverpool lose 3-1 to Chelsea, remaining top of the table with 82 points. Chelsea, meanwhile, strengthened their fifth-place standing with 63 points and continue chasing a Champions League spot.
