Liverpool joined the race to sign Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, Barcelona midfielder, before the end of the current summer transfer market.
And the English newspaper, The Sun, said: “Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp aims to include De Jong after the Reds’ poor start to the new season.”
She added, “Injuries to Alcantara and Chamberlain made there a lack of midfield options, in addition to Fabinho’s physical suffering, and doubts about Naby Keita’s future.”
Manchester United was the most prominent interested in the inclusion of De Jong, but the Dutch international rejected the idea of playing for the Red Devils due to their non-participation in the Champions League, this season, which is the weapon that Liverpool relies on to lure De Jong to join Anfield.
De Jong has stated on more than one occasion that he prefers to stay in Barcelona, but the Barca administration is seeking to get rid of him due to his large salary and to settle the club’s affairs regarding the file of financial fair play.
