Man City Beat Wolves 1-0 Thanks to De Bruyne Strike

De Bruyne goal lifts City in tight clash at the Etihad

Man City beat Wolves 1-0 on Friday evening in the Premier League’s 35th round, temporarily moving into third place. Kevin De Bruyne scored the match’s only goal in the 35th minute to give the hosts a hard-fought win at the Etihad Stadium.

With this result, Man City climbed to 64 points, two ahead of Newcastle, while Wolves remained at 41 points in 13th place.

Early Threats from Both Sides

City opened the game with high pressure, and Ruben Dias fired the first shot wide in the second minute. But Wolves responded immediately, showing attacking intent through Matheus Cunha, who tested Ederson with a long-range shot.

In the 22nd minute, Cunha slipped a perfect pass to Bellegarde, whose cross missed Montsi in front of goal. Wolves nearly punished City’s defense again five minutes later when a flowing move ended with a shot off the post by Aït-Nouri, only for Gvardiol to clear it off the line.

De Bruyne Strikes at the Right Moment

Despite the Wolves’ resilience, City capitalized on a midfield error. In the 35th minute, Jeremy Doku sprinted down the left and delivered a low cross, which De Bruyne calmly tucked into the net.

Second Half Fightback Falls Short

Wolves came out strong after halftime. Cunha almost equalized in the 56th minute after dancing past defenders and striking the post. A penalty shout for Wolves in the 59th minute was waved away by the referee.

City controlled possession in the later stages but couldn’t find a second goal. Kovacic fired wide in the 70th minute, and late substitutions including Phil Foden and Rico Lewis added fresh legs without changing the scoreline.
