Manchester City has surged ahead in the competition to acquire Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for the upcoming summer, as indicated by a recent report.
The outstanding displays of the attacking midfielder for both Leverkusen and the German national team have garnered attention from various clubs throughout Europe, with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid allegedly expressing interest in acquiring his services.
Manchester City has become the leading contender to acquire the 21-year-old player, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo. Pep Guardiola aims to strengthen his squad in order to create a team capable of securing every available trophy, and he views Wirtz as a perfect fit. The Premier League champions are willing to offer €100 million (£83 million/$105 million) to secure his services next summer.
Wirtz, whose contract is set to conclude in the summer of 2027, netted 11 goals and provided an equal number of assists, contributing significantly to Leverkusen’s triumph in the Bundesliga last season. This season, he has already scored seven goals across all competitions.
The German star will have plenty of time to weigh his options, as Europe’s top clubs are set to compete for his signature at the end of the season.
