Manchester United won its first trophy since 2017

Date:

In the English League Cup final, Manchester United prevailed over Newcastle United.
The meeting, which took place at London’s Wembley Stadium, ended with a score of 2:1. Casemiro scored a goal for the Red Devils in the 33rd minute, and Sven Botman scored another goal in the 39th minute on an own goal.

Loris Karius, the Newcastle goalkeeper, played for the first time in two years. He played for Union in the German championship on February 28, 2021, making his last appearance on the field. After goalkeeper Nick Pope was sent off in the Premier League match against Liverpool on February 18, Karius was included in Newcastle’s starting XI. Martin Dubravka, Manchester United’s second goalkeeper, was originally scheduled to play in the League Cup, so he couldn’t help his team either. Karius is well-known for his performance for Liverpool in the Champions League final of the 2017/18 season, where he committed two errors that resulted in goals. The English team lost to the Spanish “Real” by a score of 1:3.

The English League Cup was won by Manchester United for the sixth time in history. For the first time since 1976, Newcastle participated in the tournament’s final.

Since 2017, Manchester United has not won a trophy.
