Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe has put himself in the top three in the race for the Ballon d’Or this year.
Mbappe said, during an interview with the French magazine “France Football”, “I nominate Karim Benzema, then I and Sadio Mane.”
He added, “Benzema has achieved great success, and presented the best seasons of his life. He reached 34 years old, won a new title for the Champions League, and was decisive many times.”
“If I were Karim Benzema, and I didn’t win the award this year, I would have stopped thinking about the Ballon d’Or forever.” It is noteworthy that France Football
magazine announced, on Friday, the preliminary list of candidates, which included 4 players from France: Mbappe, Christopher Nkunku, Mike Mainan, and Karim Benzema. On the other hand, Argentine star Lionel Messi, who won the Ballon d’Or 7 times, was eliminated from the list of candidates for the first time since 2006.
