Milan and Genoa battled to a 0-0 draw at San Siro on Sunday in the 16th round of Serie A.
The Rossoneri squandered several chances in front of goal, ultimately dropping two crucial points in their pursuit of a top-four finish.
With this draw, Milan now has 23 points, sitting in eighth place, while Genoa moved up to 13th with 16 points.
The match began quietly until the ninth minute when Reynders made a run from midfield, passing to Abraham, who then set up Emerson for a shot that Genoa’s goalkeeper, Layali, was forced to parry away for a corner.
In the 20th minute, Milan players vocally protested after two potential penalty incidents were ignored. The first came when Liberal went down in the box following a clash with Miretti, and the second when Abraham was brought down, but the referee waved play on.
Milan had two close chances to break the deadlock. The first came from a free-kick, where Chukwueze laid the ball off to Reynders, whose powerful shot was blocked by the defence and sailed over the bar.
The second opportunity followed shortly after when Chukwueze fired a shot from the left side of the area, but it narrowly missed the post and went for a goal kick.
Just before halftime, young Jimenez unleashed a thunderous shot from the edge of the box in the 43rd minute, but Genoa’s goalkeeper made a double save to deny him.
Just a minute into the second half, Milan’s Emerson came close to breaking the deadlock. Chukwueze delivered a cross, and Emerson rose to head it on target, but the Genoa goalkeeper made a brilliant fingertip save.
Milan’s young striker, Camarda, was introduced in the 62nd minute, and just a minute later, he had a chance to score. He met a left-wing cross with a header, but it was comfortably caught by Layali, the Genoa goalkeeper.
The home side wasted a golden opportunity on a swift counter-attack. Reynders surged from midfield and passed to an unmarked Morata, who controlled the ball, dribbled past the defence, and fired a left-footed shot just wide of the post.
Morata continued his unlucky run of missed chances, following up with a powerful shot from the edge of the area after receiving a pass from Leao. The shot deflected off a Genoa defender and went out for a corner.
Milan almost found themselves trailing after an awkward moment at the back. Thiaw attempted a pass back to goalkeeper Maignan, but the ball headed towards the goal as Maignan had stepped off his line. Fortunately, the French keeper quickly recovered to clear the danger.
Genoa earned a free-kick from the edge of the area, which Martin struck, but the ball sailed over Maignan’s crossbar, leaving Milan to escape without conceding.
