The captain of the Croatian national football team Luka Modric has announced that he will retire from the national team after the upcoming 2022 World Cup.
Earlier, the former doctor of the national team Zoran Bakhtijarevic said that Modric will continue to play for the Croatian national team until the European Championship 2024.
“I know I’ve already reached a certain age. This is my last tournament for the Croatian national team,” Modric, 37, quoted by Globo Esporte with reference to the Captains documentary, said.
Earlier football player of the French “ Paris Saint-Germain ” and the national team of Argentina Lionel Messi said that the upcoming World Cup in Qatar will be the last of his professional career.
The Croatian national team will play in Group F at the World Cup. For reaching the 1/8 finals, the Zlatko Dalic team will compete with the teams of Belgium, Canada and Morocco.
As part of the Croatian national team, Modric reached the final of the 2018 World Cup, which was held in Russia. In the same year, he won the Golden Ball. Modric holds the record for the national team in terms of the number of matches played – he played 152 matches for the national team, in which he scored 22 goals and gave 24 assists.
